Hello and welcome! Today marks the beginning of our adventure in Botswana, and what a day it has been so far!
Our journey began with an overnight flight, which took us to Johannesburg, South Africa. From there, we had a brief transit, before boarding a short 50-minute flight to Gaborone, the capital city of Botswana. As we landed at the airport, we were greeted with warm smiles and welcoming handshakes from the co-founder of Win-Win, Mr. Manolo Garbayo, and our guide, Win-Win Connections advisor, Mr. Jevas Muzuva.
After our arrival in Gaborone, we checked into our hotel, The Aquarian Tide. We were pleasantly surprised by the stunning decor, comfortable rooms, and friendly staff who made us feel at home. We freshened up, grabbed a quick breakfast, and headed out to begin our day's adventure.
Our destination for the day was the Mokolodi Nature Reserve, a sanctuary that provides a natural habitat for wildlife and is dedicated to preserving the environment. The reserve has a rich history that dates back to the 1990s when it was established to protect the wildlife from poachers and habitat destruction. The reserve is home to a wide variety of animals, including elephants, lions, rhinoceroses, giraffes, zebras, and many more.
We started our visit by exploring the reptile section of the reserve, where we encountered some of the most fascinating snakes, including cobras, pythons, constrictors, and even a black mamba! Our guide provided us with insightful information about these reptiles, their habits, and their habitats. We learned that snakes play a vital role in the ecosystem, controlling the population of rodents and other small animals that can cause damage to crops and infrastructure.
After the reptile section, we continued our tour of the park and came across a group of vultures. Our guide informed us that vultures are scavengers that play a crucial role in the food chain, cleaning up dead animals and preventing the spread of disease. We also saw ostriches, zebras, crocodiles, and many other animals, all of which are protected and well taken care of at the reserve.
Despite our efforts, we couldn't find a cheetah, but we were still thrilled with our experience at the reserve. As the sun began to set, we enjoyed a delicious dinner, which included freshly cooked meats, in the reserve's restaurant. We had some time to relax and take in the beautiful surroundings before heading back to our hotel.
Overall, it was an excellent day, and we had a lot of fun together. We learned so much about the environment, the wildlife, and the people of Botswana, and we look forward to continuing our journey in this beautiful country.
